The OET Reading sub-test consists of three parts, a total of 42 question items.

You are given 60 minutes to complete all three parts.

Part A – 15 minutes

20 short answer questions. Assesses your ability to locate specific information from 4 different kinds of healthcare texts, and in a quick and efficient manner through skimming and scanning.  .

Part B &C – 45 minutes

Part B consists of 6 3-option MCQs based on short healthcare-related texts (100-150 words). It assesses your ability to identify the detail, gist, purpose, action & consequence, broader meaning  and other functions of language.

Part C consists of 2 longer texts (800 – 1000 words), each with 8 4-option MCQs. It assesses your ability to identify gist, inference, action & consequence, opinion attitude and other functions of language.

Tips for approaching each part of this subtest

Before starting your Practice tests, download (right click to open a new widow) and review “The OET Reading Coach” included under “Tutorials” in your course.

How to work with these Reading Practice tests

You can preview the texts for each part (e.g. all 4 Part A  texts) first before you start the exercise.

“Start” the exercise and the questions will appear under the texts. The texts will remain visible as you answer the questions.

Click “Finish” / “Confirm Finish” when done and you will see the answers and your score.

NOTE: if you start an exercise, you must finish it and click “Finish” before you will be allowed to move on to another part.  BUT you can do the practice papers or parts A, B and C in any order you wish.
