Grammar Lesson D [B2-]

Simple present

When giving patients facts (about diagnosis, test results, treatments or procedures) any tense can be used depending on the situation but the most commonly used are simple present and simple past.

  • “The X-rays show that you have emphysema.”
  • “Mold can trigger an allergic lung reaction.”
  • “1.5 million people died from TB in 2018. 250,000 of them had HIV.”
  • “TB is caused by bacteria.” (passive voice)

For ‘passive voice’: see Module 4, Grammar Lesson J and Appendix4.3
