Speaking Lesson L [B2+]

DISCUSSING SOCIAL SUPPORT

A patient might not be able to manage at home on his or her own, but may have family members, friends or connection in the community who might help them.

Questions you can ask include:

  • Do you live alone?
  • Do you have transportation?
  • Do you have access to transportation?
  • Do you need assistance?

  • Will you need home care?
  • Will you need home assistance?
  • Will you be able to manage clinic appointments?

  • How will you manage clinic visits?

  • Is there anyone who can help you?
  • Is anyone able to help you?

  • Can your meals be delivered?
  • Can you medicines be delivered?

  • How’ve you been managing?

Practice repeating ALOUD each example sentence in the lesson above. Focus especially on the collocations, RUNNING THEM TOGETHER until they flow as ONE EXPRESSION.  The collocations are underlined. Practice until you too speak smoothly and naturally.

See Module 4, Appendix 4.3 and LESSON J for review of ‘passive voice’.
