Vocabulary Lesson D [B2-]

LAYMAN VS MEDICAL LANGUAGE

Patients describe how they feel in layman’s terms:

  • I can’t get to sleep at night OR I can’t sleep through the night.
  • I’ve got no appetite OR I’ve gone off my food.

But healthcare professionals record their assessments or findings using medical terms:

  • Assessment: Insomnia
  • Assessment: Anorexia

Review APPENDIX 3.2 for Common language patients use to describe how they feel.
