COPING WITH SITUATIONS

Important Vocabulary

a) to cope (with something) 

= to deal with something = to handle something = to manage (to do) something

b) can = be able to (physical ability)

We conjugate the verb ‘be’; ‘able to’ remains the same (I am able to / you are able to / he is able to)

Patient:

  • I can bathe without help.
  • I am able to bath without help.

 

  • I can’t bathe without help.
  • I’m not able to bathe without help.

Therapist / Nurse / Doctor:

  • Can you bathe without help?
  • Are you able to bathe without help?

c) be willing to = to want or to be prepared to do something

Doctor:

  • Are you willing to try more chemotherapy?

Patient:

  • I’m willing to try more chemotherapy.
  • I’m not willing to have more chemotherapy.

Practice repeating ALOUD each example sentence in the lesson above. Focus on the common collocations, RUNNING THEM TOGETHER until they flow as ONE EXPRESSION.  The collocations are underlined.
